How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Opposition's pre-emptive measures...

it boils down to the lack of independence and integrity of our Election Commission. A situation which we are not proud of and the measures necessary to overcome the blatant bias of the EC, mainstream media and other government controlled agencies.

Subscription based internet news portal, Malaysiakini goes free for a week for the following reasons:

CEO Premesh Chandran said the move is in line with Malaysiakini’s vision, which among others include the support for ‘the development of freedom of speech, social justice and democracy in Malaysia’.

"Democracy is about voters acquiring sufficient knowledge to make an informed choice. By making Malaysiakini available to all, we want to play our part in helping Malaysians exercise their democratic right," added editor-in-chief Steven Gan.

During this free period, Malaysiakini will allow its ‘news and views’ to be re-posted in blogs and other websites as well as to be printed and photocopied for distribution. in solidarity with free speech"

Zorro even had this advice in his renown blog:

"SHOULD TONIGHT'S RALLYS BE THE LAST, THE BN'S MAIN STREAM MEDIA WILL USE FRIDAY TO SPIN AND CAUSE DOUBTS.

STAY FOCUSED ANAK BANGSA MALAYSIA.

DO NOT BUY THE NST AND THE STAR AND THE OTHER MAINSTREAM MEDIA.

BOYCOTT THE MSM TOMORROW. READ MALAYSIAKINI, IT IS FREE. READ MALAYSIATODAY AND THE OTHER SOCIO-POLITICAL BLOGS. "

Have we come to this stage of our so-called democracy? We cannot even trust the papers we read nor the television we watch!
