How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Ku Li preferred by non-members

Ku Li seems more acceptable now.

To those Umno non-members, and members of the public, given the candidates for the top post in Umno, Tengku Razaleigh is preferred over Najib, simply because the latter has many questions unanswered.

Ku Li, with the backing of Dr. M, can be a formidable force if the necessary minimum 58 nominations can be obtained to kick start his campaign. Najib has incumbency to his advantage - the ability to dish out goodies to those vital 191 leaders responsible for nominations.

So far, the three contenders for Deputy President (also for Deputy Prime Minister’s post) are Muhyiddin, Ali Rustam and Mat Taib. What immediately came to my mind are the following:

Muhyiddin was the one who rubbished Dr. Lim Teck Ghee’s report on Bumiputera’s share ownership.

Ali Rustam was the one who told PPP’s president, Kayveas, that they can leave BN now, no need to wait. With such attitude, it would be difficult for the other coalition partners to work with him.

Mat Taib was best known for pretending he did not understand English and also did not trust the banks to transfer money overseas.

Ku Li’s recent statement on his proposals to change Umno radically must have found some new supporters among members of the public, apart from the existing coalition parties’ members. But many people doubt whether he could manage to convince his own party leaders and grassroots on such radical changes even if he could win the party presidential election. So far, none of the past presients could do so.
