How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Penanti made out to be boring

Though the mainstream media played down on the victory, PKR's Deputy Chief Minister designate, Dr. Othman did not have it easy. Congratulations!

Last night, we were out and forgotten about the by-election in Penanti. By the time I switched on for the 12.00 midnight news, the PKR victory was slotted after a few other news items. My wife assumed that no news or delayed news meant good news for Pakatan or bad news for BN. I tried to check out Dr. Othman's name in yesterday's Star and the by-election was really hidden. Not only that! There was no mention of his name at all! Like the saying, 'the silence was deafening', it was like, 'the omission was glaring'!

With Umno not contesting, Aminah's expose hogged the limelight but it had proven to be ineffective in terms of damaging PKR. This is good for democracy because it will discourage future attempts at using dirty tricks for political gains.

Aminah here, and Anifah in USA, were like candidates applying for jobs, who instead of selling their good points, discredit others instead, and the attempts backfired.
