How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

1Malaysia; People First; Performance Now!

We all know the truth about 1Malaysia when not everyone is equal under the Constitution, and Umno being a race-based party, by itself, makes it incongruous and meaningless. We cannot have both. Either we continue with racial politics and forget about 1Malaysia or 1Malaysia without racial politics. To try and spin that it is possible is highly hypocritical.

'People First, Performance Now' has been a joke among the bloggers because like 1Malaysia, it is mere sloganeering without substance, to look good in the mainstream media and hope the people will be gullible to take it at face value. I cannot help thinking along what my son jokingly suggested to us: that he is going to try first and if the girl gets pregnant, then marry! No more guessing and hoping, sometimes without any result. Now, doesn't that fit in People First, Performance Now?

The "bumi" laws still discrimminate after so many decades. The constitution even discriminates against Malays. Article 160 even defines that you are not a Malay if you renounce Islam. Being a Muslim is a necessary thing to be classed as a Malay.
