How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Beware of 'cheque washing'

What's next? The other day, I sent off a cheque and it did occur to me that the danger of it being intercepted by criminals was there. I checked online and noticed the cheque was being cleared and I called the drawee's employee to confirm that the firm had received it. It was not a large amount and yet I had to take precautions, if not, it would have meant a trip to Ipoh to personally hand it to them!

A friend just forwarded to me the following, and I think it works both ways by publicizing it - showing people how to prevent fraud as well as teaching people how to do it!

Now we understand why banks in China do not accept signatures signed using ball point pens. They have a good reason for that.

If you pay your bills by check, then you need to watch this film. This is VERY interesting and you need to go get a Uni-Ball 207 pen!!!!

Wal-Mart and Office Depot have them. They are marked"Helps prevent check fraud" on the packaging.

Just wondering if the prescribed pens are easily available in Malaysia, and how many of us take the trouble to ensure that we are using such pens for writing out cheques!

KS, This has been going on for some time in Malaysia. People who work in banks tell their friends not to send cheques by post. I wonder why the warning has not been sounded publicly by the banks.

Yes, there are so many other things too, which should be highlighted by the relevant authorities.

Like those dangerous drugs and unhealthy foods and drinks, but they might get sued instead.

In terms of health, threading through the maze of dangerous stuffs is like playing 'hop scotch' among dog poops on the streets. Can be stressful indeed.
