How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

If you're not going to speak up, how is the world supposed to know you exist? “Orang boleh pandai setinggi langit, tapi selama ia tidak menulis, ia akan hilang di dalam masyarakat dan dari sejarah.” - Ananta Prameodya Toer (Your intellect may soar to the sky but if you do not write, you will be lost from society and to history.)

The significance of certain chosen dates

There are several reasons why I like Taiwan, though I have never been there. Most of the people speak Hokien and Mandarin.

Every year since they first celebrated their National Day, they celebrate my birthday too.

A nephew of mine whose wife is expecting in October, has decided on October 10, if necessary by caesarian birth. My best man did something similar by choosing 8th August 1988 for his son.

In most watch advertisements the time displayed on the watch is 10:10 because then the arms frame the brand of the watch and make it look like it's smiling.

However, for MCA, this coming October 10 will mark a significant event, when either party President, Ong Tee Keat or Deputy President, Dr. Chua Soi Lek will win in their unusual 'either or' referendum at their party's Extraordinary General Meeting. Either one will not be smiling after that.

At a recent wedding on 20 September, 2009, it was made known the significance of the chosen date which coincides with year 2009. A classmate who is fondly known as Ten, when asked about her wedding date, joked that she would choose the tenth of October, 2010 and with her name, it becomes 10 10 10 10!
