How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

If you're not going to speak up, how is the world supposed to know you exist? “Orang boleh pandai setinggi langit, tapi selama ia tidak menulis, ia akan hilang di dalam masyarakat dan dari sejarah.” - Ananta Prameodya Toer (Your intellect may soar to the sky but if you do not write, you will be lost from society and to history.)

A glimpse of the rich getting married in China...

Lamborghinis... the Chinese characters signify faithfulness forever...
Rolls Royce... the Chinese characters signify hundred years of excellent union...
Rolls in a motorcade which looks more like a government event with foreign VVIPs...
Last minute haggle over size of angpows... before bride is allowed to leave with groom...
Any amount should not be a problem...
Procession being filmed!

I hope the pictures do not put off those who are about to get married. You do not need such grand presentation to get married. To console ourselves lesser mortals, here is the reality check:

Chinese adage about Money
Words from Zhang Zhongmou

With money:
you can buy a house but you can't buy a home;

you can buy a clock but you can't buy time;

you can buy a bed but you can't buy enough sleep;

you can buy a book but you can't buy knowledge;

you can buy medical treatment but you can't buy health;

you can buy a footing but you can't buy respect;

you can buy blood but you can't buy life;

you can buy sex but you can't buy love;

A Hakka sour grape would put it as: 'Thoong yin ng thoong miang' or 'same type of people but different life styles'!
