How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Tiger in Tiger year means trouble-shooting since day 1...

Just before Chinese New Year of the Tiger, committed myself to a HP loan. Then came the water disconnection after accumulated bills totalling over Rm800, which required new pipes costing Rm1,500 which required enforced stay in PJ. The telephone bills under someone's name also totalled more than Rm800 which needed attention.

The new 4x4 required installation of new canopy and its related application for approval and endorsement by JPJ. Then the necessary fixing of additional pedal lock, having experienced a 5-year old Ford Courier stolen under our noses, which I wrote about in Malaysiakini under 'Carlost Santana' few years ago.

The cracked windscreen of my son's Accent which I tolerated for 4 years became unbearable now that the car is being used by a daughter. So it was replacement in BG, followed by a trip to KL. Again, following complaint about the wobbly experience, checked and found front shock absorbers needed replacement.

In PJ, found wireless connection failed for 2 days. Tried Digi prepaid internet which seem easy and reasonable at Rm25 starter pack which included Rm10 for 5 days' use. But easy it was not, because of miscommunication and it required a special modem which can take in the sim card. Bought one in Digital Mall for Rm185 but could not log on. The easy self-installation of software had the APN as 'diginet' while the booklet mentioned it as '3gdgnet'. Sought my friend's free service and he managed to create a file or something to correct it. It worked! Then he checked our wireless router and it worked at his place. But just tested it and found it does not work at home. Could be the telephone line which is under proper disconnection.

So you can imagine how I felt each time people said I am the most carefree person they have ever come across.

My ex-classmate died a couple of years ago, apparently because of depression, which again I was told was partly because of rashes and itches. I looked up the symptoms of depression and offhand, I can still remember them as eg. 'feeling depressed, does not enjoy activities which the person enjoys before, seeing things are not going to change, prefers to keep to himself, etc. etc.' I found them very relevant, so for those who did not get my response for invitations to certain events, my sincere apologies... it is me, not you.
