How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Sibu by-election holds the key

to which way our country is heading.

Again, another by-election is being turned into a buy-election unashamedly by no less than the PM himself. Each time, some of us are hoping that the voters would make known that such illegal means which seems officially sanctioned, are frowned upon and shown as such through the election process. We are now given another bite of the cherry.

Personally, I am hoping that since Sibu has a Chinese majority electorate, a repeat of the Hulu Selangor response to last minute vote buying should translate into a Pakatan victory. I am influenced by the following article by Kim Quek in Malaysia Today:

'Sibu Must Save the Country'

"The Chinese community in Hulu Selangor has just done it. Najib had offered to give RM3m cash to the Rasa Chinese Primary School on condition that they voted for BN. Despite that tempting offer, over 80% of the Chinese in Rasa voted against BN. the link:
