Train now stops at the near side of KTM Batu Gajah station

I was pleasantly surprised to see the train arriving from KL Sentral stopping on the same platform as those leaving the station southbound to KL. This means a lot to senior citizens and physically handicapped persons who had to cross the railway lines using the high overhead bridge. Why didn't they think of that before? Does it mean the pedestrian bridge becomes a white elephant most of the time?

But the inconvenient location remains a big problem. For those without arrangements, having to walk 2 km to reach the main Jalan Tualang is no joke under the hot sun in the day, and insecure at night. This Saturday, I will be coming back from KL Sentral reaching past midnight. Even with prior arrangement for wife to pick me, I am apprehensive at the thought of having to wait at that hour in this secluded station for the first time.

Hi Anon.

Since you are coming for the first time, check out your time of arrival because not having someone to pick you at night can be a problem.

The station is in Kg. Pisang and is 2 km from the main Jalan Tualang which is in Batu Gajah. But the problem lies in its isolated location which is not practical to walk (too hot during the day; too dark at night; and too wet if raining). There is presently no bus service and no taxi seems to hang around for business because almost all passengers have arrangements. I have seen one or two guys walking out in the day time.

Please have someone to pick you up. If not, at least have phone numbers of friends or relatives which you might need to call for assistance.

Firstly,thks for your info.
I saw your petition of asking them to open the old station which I'm also agree as it is a very nostalgic & historical site in Batu Gajah, & yet i believe it still capable to serve the travelers . By the way I'm actually from Batu Gajah, working in SG so plan to take the train back instead of taking the Seri Maju express, because the train station in SG only operate until this year July.

Ha ha ha. Probably someone I know because BG is small and almost everyone knows at least someone who knows someone.

As I have mentioned before, the new station served vested interests who made a bundle from the move. Its purpose of ticketing, boarding and disembarking can be handled at the old place, if necessary, with some renovation and expansion. By locating it near the new Railway Complex they did not take into account service to the people, by which convenience should be top priority.

So your train journey from Singapore is to use it before they close that station down. I have never been there before, probably will not miss it as much.

Cheers.

I was at the station on May 27, at around 4.40 am and the train arriving from the south (KL) stopped at the other side (platform 2) which required passengers to use the overhead pedestrian bridge. I have expected this and it confirmed my earlier guess that KTM tries whenever possible to stop at the near side for the convenience of passengers from KL disembarking, but at certain times, it cannot be done. For example, the southbound train coming from Ipoh was due to arrive at 4.54 am and platform 1 is the right platform to be. So whether northbound train could stop at the near side would depend on whether there is another train coming from the opposite direction within minutes ie. not enough time for any switch to the convenient side.

Based on my recent trips back from KL, the trains had not stopped at the near side. So don't expect it to be and you won't be disappointed.
