How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Christian prayers blown up...

by gullible PM, Home and Defence ministers?

It sure looks like it... unless they have ulterior motives.

All it takes was a grainy picture of some Church leaders joining hands with a Penang DAP politician in prayers at a dinner posted by a known pro-Umno blogger, taken up by Umno-owned mouthpiece in Utusan Malaysia claiming they were pledging to make Christianity the official religion of Malaysia! Of all places, Malaysia, a Malay-majority and thus Muslim-majority nation with Malay Rulers, predominantly Malay armed forces, police and civil servants. Unbelievable that such claims could be taken as 'serious if true' by the senior ministers who gave the impression they could be true. Jeff Ooi made clear that it was just the usual prayers before dinner and more important, despite his name 'Jeff' he is a Buddhist! If only Utusan checked out the facts before publishing serious allegation, but as is now well known, Utusan has an agenda undeniably linked to Umno the party, their owners.

What we have now are Umno leaders using all sorts of tactics to distract the public from serious problems in the country, starting with the main opposition leader charged for corruption and sodomy ten years ago by then PM, Tun Dr. Mahathir who found him then his Deputy, a threat to his position; again for sodomy with the trial ongoing; then claims with video clip that it was Anwar having sex with an alleged prostitute; and now this mischievous allegation meant to cause disunity in the country. That the rule of the law was not applied to persons linked to Umno was blatantly obvious making the leaders' claims of 'no connection' with the accusations incredible. Umno leaders seem to 'hit below the belt' instead of having a fair competition with Pakatan Rakyat at the next General Election.

I believe the same Christians in the grainy picture would be more than happy to hold the PM's hands and engage in prayer. But would our PM be willing? What would UTUSAN have to say about this?

PM studied in St. John's Institution and graduated from Nottingham University. No doubt he should be open-minded about Christianity but has to abide by certain protocol locally, especially set by overzealous aides.

At the recent British Royal Wedding, our King and Queen were present in Westminster Abbey where Christian prayers were offered and hymns sung, proof that they were open-minded too.
