How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

If you're not going to speak up, how is the world supposed to know you exist? “Orang boleh pandai setinggi langit, tapi selama ia tidak menulis, ia akan hilang di dalam masyarakat dan dari sejarah.” - Ananta Prameodya Toer (Your intellect may soar to the sky but if you do not write, you will be lost from society and to history.)

What we can learn from the earliest civilizations

In the East:

The Chinese Martial Arts world, esp. the Taoists, have known for thousands of years this obvious fact:

Researchers link cell division and oxygen levels
June 11, 2011

'Cells grow abundant when oxygen is available, and generally stop when it is scarce. Although this seems straightforward, no direct link ever has been established between the cellular machinery that senses oxygen and that which controls cell division. Now, in the June 10 issue of Molecular Cell, researchers at Johns Hopkins report that the MCM proteins, which promote cell division, also directly control the oxygen-sensing HIF-1 protein...'

The Taoist martial artists have their "6 keys to a healthy life":

1. Breathe well (like a Taoist)
2. Drink Well (Enough Water, not beer or alcohol)
3. Eat Well
4. Sleep Well
5. Exercise Well (Regularly)
6. Meditate Well (Regularly)

The Chinese has qi-gong thousands of years well before the white men came along out of their Dark Ages.

Modern men has broken all the rules above, esp. Rule #1 above. Thus we have cancer and all sorts of unknown diseases.

There is a Taoist story of a young novice, upon seeing all the sick people, tugged at the sleeve of his master, a Taoist Abbot, and asked

"Why are these people so sick and unhealthy?".

His Master answered "They have forgotten how to breathe! ".

You have to hand it to the ancient Indian rishis for their deep understanding of life.
Maharishi Vatsyayan has stated in his magnum opus "Kamasutra" that sex is...

"Duty", if done with your wife;
"Art", if done with your lover;
"Education", if done with a virgin;
"Business Transaction", if done with a prostitute;
"Social Work", if done with a divorcee;
"Charity", if done with a widow;
"Meditative Trance", if done by yourself.

In the West:

A man wonders if having sex on the Sabbath is a sin because he is not sure if sex is work or play. So he goes to a Priest and asks for his opinion on this question.

After consulting the Bible, the Priest says, ' My son, after an exhaustive search, I am positive that sex is work and is therefore not permitted on Sundays.'!

The man thinks: ' What does a priest know about sex?' So he goes to a Minister, who after all is a married man and experienced in this matter. He queries the Minister and receives the same reply. Sex is work and therefore not for the Sabbath! Not pleased with the reply, he seeks out the ultimate authority: a man of thousands of years tradition and knowledge.

In other words, he goes to a Rabbi. The Rabbi ponders the question, then states, ' My son, sex is definitely play.'

The man replies, 'Rabbi, how can you be so sure when so many others tell me sex is work?'

The Rabbi softly speaks, 'If sex were work, my wife would have the maid do it.
