How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

The then and the now: how not to get depressed?

I have traded 'peace of mind' hoping for an extension of a few years of life. I believe less stress also helps in slowing the ageing process. A sort of prevention, rather than cure with botox and what not, when you have made it and could afford to do so. I would use an analogy of a light bulb of say 1,000 hours life. You can either use it continuously for 40 days or use it for 200 days at 5 hours per day.

A selection of 'then and now' pictures of some pop stars provide us with some sense of reality and rid us of denial that our age shows. We tend to say 'so and so' looks so old now, not realising he or she could be saying the same of us.

I cannot get over my sister-in-law's comment about Bob Dylan performing in Singapore - she could see only the hat which covered his face most of the time!
