How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

PM, how about paying bloggers not to bad-blog about you?

Our PM is now best known to be the most generous of them all, what with all the pay-outs to all and sundry, with acronyms like BR1M, BL1M and what not. He might earn a title like 'Father of Distribution (of public funds)' for trying to cover all classifications of people (giving them the benefit of the doubt even when some deceived in their applications) in his desperation to ensure that he can retain his position as PM this coming General Election.

We are used to local news in the mainstream media, heavily biased towards BN and against the opposition. But not satisfied with these propaganda, it is now confirmed that public funds had been used to pay certain foreigners in discrediting Anwar Ibrahim in particular.

According to Uppercaise's blogpost titled,

Paid to blog: Josh Trevino’s MR26,300 a month

'Josh Trevino who has admitted being a paid propagandist for the Malaysian government and Umno, was a darling of Umno bloggers such as Rockybru and Barking Magpie, none of whom revealed the Malaysian connection when republishing his anti-Anwar Ibrahim articles with great acclaim.

Do they also, like Trevino, get paid to blog? Many people have raised this question.

In a filing with the US government in January, Trevino has admitted receiving RM1.2mil for writing articles and leading a propaganda campaign against Anwar Ibrahim. He reported receiving a total of US$161,100 (almost MR500,000) for 19 months’ blogging at the little-known websites MalaysianMatters.com and MalaysiaWatcher.com — that works out to an average of US$8,500 a month (MR26,300).

He also received US228,000 for eight months of blogging — and placing articles in mainstream US publications such as the online newspaper Huffington Post and the rightwing Washington Times and others...'
