How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

A bit on PAS candidates and a bit on DAP's in Perak

Perak PAS commissioner Abu Bakar Hussain made the following announcement on Tuesday:

Changkat Jering state seat : Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin (ex-ADUN ex-PKR Osman Jailu)
Pasir Panjang state seat : Lumut PAS Muslimah chief Rohawati Abidin (ex-ADUN Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin);
Kubu Gajah state seat : Nazri Din (ex-ADUN Raja Ahmad Zainuddin Raja Haji Omar)
Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat : Idris Ahmad (ex-MP Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin);
Larut parliamentary seat : Former Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Fauzi Shaari (ex-MP Hamzah Zainuddin)

By contesting only state seat and not Parliament as well, PAS appears to follow the general guideline of one seat per candidate, and Nizar has to focus on winning Perak and hopefully become Menteri Besar again.

Btw, from a coffee shop in Batu Gajah this morning:

Batu Gajah parliamentary seat : DAP's V Sivakumar ex-ADUN Tronoh  (ex-MP Fong Po Kuan)
3-term MP of Batu Gajah, Fong Po Kuan not standing for election in GE13? To locals, if this is true, she will be missed and DAP shall have one winnable candidate less.
Tronoh state seat? DAP's Paul Yong was mentioned.
Jelapang state seat : DAP's Teh Hock Ke vs MCA's Yip Sze Choy likely
Ipoh Timur parliamentary seat : DAP's Wong Kah Woh ex-ADUN Canning (ex-MP Lim Kit Siang). This is a surprise to me because I was expecting Thomas Su (ex-ADUN Pasir Pinji) instead.
As is well known Lim Kit Siang has already crossed the Rubicon by openly stating that he will contest in Gelang Patah, Johore.
